Lamination curlers

The lamination silicone shield is the component that determines the degree of lift — more so than any chemical step in the protocol. It's important to note that the chemical compounds perform the transformation, but the shield determines HOW the result will look.

Lamination Shields — Shield Size Matters More Than the Chemistry Brand

In lash lift, a smaller shield produces a more dramatic lift; a larger one produces a more natural result. It's important to note that this relationship is counterintuitive: the smaller size places the lash base at a tighter angle against the eyelid, while the larger shield spreads the lash at a shallower angle. Size selection is determined by two factors: natural lash length and the desired lift intensity.

How to Choose the Correct Size

No specific size is inherently correct or incorrect — it is correct relative to lash length. For very short lashes (below 8–9 mm), a smaller size is necessary for the lash to wrap around the shield. For longer lashes, a larger shield is more appropriate to avoid excessive bending of the lash. It's important to note that placing a shield that is too small on a long lash can cause reddening of the tips or even keratin breakage.

Full Set or Replacement Pairs

Sets of five sizes provide full flexibility when working with different clients throughout the day. Sets of four pairs of a specific type suit restocking the most-used size in the practice. It's important to note that in an active lash lift practice, shield consumption in specific sizes becomes predictable over time — practitioners learn which sizes are used most frequently with their client base.

Silicone Patches — a Different Function from Shields

Reusable silicone patches are placed under the lower lashes — not on the eyelid. They protect the lower lid skin from contact with the chemical compounds during the procedure. It's important to note that "reusable" does not mean unlimited — the patches must be cleaned after each use and replaced when visible deterioration occurs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many procedures can a silicone shield last?

Closed-type shields (ONLY, FORMA, Ultra Soft) are designed for single-use — one per client. It's important to note that reusing a shield increases the risk of cross-contamination and may result in size deviation if the shield has become deformed.

Are shields from different brands interchangeable?

Functionally — yes, at a similar size. But it's important to note that different brands have different curvature profiles: an "M" size from INLei may not deliver an identical lift angle to an "M" from Novel. When changing brands, testing is recommended.
