Lash extension liquids are the products applied before, during and after the lash extension procedure. It's important to note that they are not interchangeable accessories — each type fulfils a specific function at a defined moment in the workflow, and skipping any step directly affects retention.

Lash Liquids — Sequence Matters More Than Brand

The most common error when working with lash extension liquids is treating them as independent products with no connection between them. It's important to note that degreasing, priming and adhesive work as a system — the effect of each step depends on the correct execution of the one before.

Step 1: Degreasing

The degreaser is the first step — applied to natural lashes to remove sebum, oil deposits and cosmetic residue. It's important to note that adhesive polymerises significantly less effectively on an oily surface — even an invisible thin oil film is sufficient to reduce bonding strength. All degreasers in this category are alcohol-free.

Step 2: Priming

The primer is applied after the degreaser, once the degreaser has dried. It balances the pH of the natural lash and removes residual moisture. In practice: without a primer, adhesion is less predictable — particularly for clients with elevated sebum production or in humid working environments.

During Application: Booster and Fume Neutraliser

The adhesive booster is applied after the full set is completed — it accelerates final polymerisation of the cyanoacrylate and reduces the window during which the client must avoid moisture. The fume neutraliser is placed in the working space, not applied to the client — it reduces the concentration of adhesive fumes in the room.

For Removal: Remover

The remover is the only product in this category designed for removing extensions rather than for use in a new application session. Cream-type and gel-type removers are applied differently and have different working timeframes — it is important to select the right type for the specific removal scenario.

Sealant and Lash Shampoo

The lash sealant is applied after a completed session — it coats the bond point and reduces moisture sensitivity in the first hours. Lash shampoo is the only appropriate cleansing product for lash extensions — standard cleansers contain oils or conditioners that degrade the adhesive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is both degreasing and priming obligatory?

They perform two different functions. The degreaser removes oils. The primer balances pH. It's important to note that skipping the primer cannot be compensated by additional degreasing — the two products work at different molecular levels on the lash surface.

Can lash shampoo be used before the procedure as well?

Yes. Washing the lashes with shampoo before the session is good practice for clients who use eye cosmetics — it reduces degreasing time and minimises the risk of residue.

Does remover dissolve the adhesive immediately?

No — the remover must remain in contact with the adhesive for 2–5 minutes before the bond softens and the extension can be gently removed. It's important to note that mechanical removal without remover is contraindicated.
