A lash adhesive booster is a product applied over a completed set of extensions to accelerate the final polymerisation of the cyanoacrylate adhesive. It's important to note that the booster does not replace the normal curing process — it accelerates it in specific situations.

Lash Boosters — When They Help and When They Harm

Cyanoacrylate polymerises through a reaction with moisture in the air. At normal humidity (35–55%), the adhesive completes setting within 15–30 seconds after each lash is bonded, with full polymerisation of the entire set taking 24 hours. It's important to note that the booster acts ONLY at the end of the procedure — after the final lash has been applied — and must not be used during active application.

When a Booster Is Useful

A booster is most useful in three specific situations: in dry rooms with humidity below 35%; for clients where post-procedure contact with moisture must be minimised; and with adhesive systems that benefit from additional activation. In practice, a booster reduces the 24-hour full polymerisation window — within 1–2 minutes of application, bonds reach functional resistance to moisture.

The Errors in Use

Applying excessive booster or applying it too close to the bond points can cause "blooming" — a visible white haze around the adhesive point. It's important to note that this is a chemical reaction (exothermic polymerisation with excess booster) and does not represent an adhesive defect, but it appears unnatural and may cause mild irritation in sensitive clients. Correct dosage is a light dispersed mist from 15–20 cm distance.

Shelf Life — Shorter Than Other Lash Liquids

It's important to note that boosters have a 12-month unopened shelf life — half that of degreasers and removers (24 months). This is due to the chemical reactivity of the active components. Post-opening: 5 months.

Is a booster mandatory at every session?

No. At normal humidity (35–55%) and with the correct adhesive, a booster is not necessary — the adhesive polymerises independently. It's important to note that regular use without a specific need can make bond points more brittle with overdosage.

Can the booster be applied during the lash application session?

No. Applying it during active application accelerates the adhesive on the stone and can cause adhesive "shock" — white residue on the bonds. The booster is applied only after the complete session has ended.
